Dr Wang is a core researcher of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research responsible for two projects that are related to energy and climate policy in China. Tao is also a research fellow of Sussex Energy Group in SPRU (Science and Technology Policy Research) in the University of Sussex. His research focuses on scenario analysis of China’s energy demand and carbon emission in this century and how energy policy and low carbon technology could help China to transit to a low carbon system. Tao is also interested in the role of low carbon technology transfer in carbon reduction in large developing countries and identifying the barriers and difficulties to the success of these transfers. In more recent work he has done some work to reveal the embodied carbon emission in China’s international trade, its carbon imbalance to western countries, and its implications for international climate and trade policies. Tao is an environmental economist by training but very keen on the interfaces among policy, technology and business, with a particular interest to those in China.
