Bishopsgate Institute

Bishopsgate Institute is proud to support the Battle of Ideas conference 2007. The Institute has been a centre of debate for over 100 years, and our library and archive collections represent figures and organisations at the cutting edge of political and social discourse in the 19th and 20th centuries. Bishopsgate Institute is currently developing its programme of topical debates to continue and strengthen this tradition, and we are delighted to be undertaking this in partnership with the Academy of Ideas.

"Just when Kant's formulation that 'the public exercise of reason should be free' had begun to seem so remote and exhausted, the Battle should reinforce one's faith in the enduring worth of dissent and of the free traffic in ideas"
Swapan Chakravorty, professor of english, Jadavpur University
