Steve Hynes

LAG through its publishing and training services plays an important role in increasing lawyers and advisors knowledge of the law. Legal Action magazine published by LAG is the leading independent magazine for the advice sector and legal aid lawyers.

Prior to joining LAG Steve was the Director of the Law Centres Federation (LCF). Over the years Law Centres have played a prominent role in providing legal services to disadvantaged communities. Before joining LCF Steve worked as Co-ordinator of Rochdale Law Centre at which he also undertook case work in employment and discrimination law.

Steve has written extensively and appeared in the broadcast media commenting on legal aid and access to justice issues. He has co-authored with the journalist Jon Robins, The Justice Gap published by LAG. The book describes the origins and history of legal aid as well as the Government’s attempts to reform the system. While arguably the best funded in the world, the book contends that the public are not being well served by the current system and suggests reforms to bridge The Justice Gap.
