Miriam Elia

Miriam Elia was nominated for a prestigious Sony Radio Academy Award in 2008 for her first ever comedy show, A Series Of Psychotic Episodes which she wrote as an adaptation of various sketches and collages made whilst studying at the Royal College of Art.  She is currently writing her second four part series for BBC Radio 4, which will be broadcast this Autumn.

She has worked on short humorous films and animations for the Tate and the BBC, and is currently planning the first ever gallery group show between Comedians and Visual Artists

In 2009, Miriam Elia created a huge Amnesty campaign to help her friend Hengameh Shahidi, an Iranian journalist who had been arrested and tortured by the regime for participating in the pro-democracy march in July last year. She organized a sell-out gig at the 800 seater Bloomsbury theatre in aid of Hengameh, starring comedians such as Stewart Lee, Lucy Porter, Shappi Khorsandi and Arthur Smith.

Miriam continues to actively support the Iranian resistance, and attends many meetings and demonstrations for the cause of freedom in Iran.
