Siôn Humphries trained as a social science and PE teacher and was a subject teacher, head of department and head of year before becoming a deputy headteacher. He spent 15 years in a range of senior leadership roles in 3 London boroughs, developed interests in CPD, pastoral management and school improvement strategy. An opportunity to take early retirement led to a change of direction and his current role with NAHT. Working in the policy and campaigns section, Siôn represents the Association in meetings with politicians, policy makers and other educational bodies; helps develop NAHT policy positions; works closely with National Executive members and represents NAHT in the media, both written and broadcast. Siôn’s lead responsibility is for secondary education issues but he is involved in a wide range of other areas, ranging from broader curricular matters, the impact of new technologies on schools, CPD and pastoral education. He is a firm believer in work-life balance and will bore colleagues at the drop of a hat with the tales of a wannabe rock star. Siôn is a sports fanatic, dividing his loyalties between Tranmere Rovers, Llanelli Scarlets and the Welsh rugby XV. From this one can infer a penchant for supporting lost causes and a sense of humour. |

"The Battle of Ideas is where we can step out boldly where the angels – or should that be demons – of conventionality fear to tread."
