A former editor of Varsity, the student newspaper, Amol studied in English at Cambridge. Prior to university he spent a gap year at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, becoming unofficially the youngest person ever to represent the UK at a political conference abroad. After university he was for two years mic boy on Channel 5’s The Wright Stuff. In 2007 he joined the Independent as a news reporter, and was subsequently Sports News Correspondent - covering the London Olympics in particular - and Assistant Comment Editor and Deputy Comment Editor.

He now works as an adviser to Evgeny Lebedev, owner of the Independent titles and the London Evening Standard, and writes several columns: ‘Rajan’s Wrong’un’, a cricket column, in the Independent on Monday; twice weekly on politics for i, a new compact paper; and a bi-weekly restaurant column in the Independent on Sunday. He is a trustee of Prospex, a charity for young people in Islington. He likes reggae and avoiding lifts.
