![]() | Jane has written for DIVA since 1994, and joined as its editor on April Fool’s Day 2004. An auspicious day for her (it’s her mum’s birthday), she waved her freelance career as a journalist for The Times, the Independent and Horse & Hound goodbye. As a media commentator she has written op-eds for the Guardian, The Times and other salubrious publications. She is regularly asked to sit on panels at festivals and debates which can’t be much fun for those underneath her. She loves: dancing to old school funk and disco, the smell of wet pinewood, babbling brooks, peak experiences, dirty electro, summer orchards, rock’n'roll, fresh blueberries in Greek yoghurt, Japanese tattoos, cycling through the centre of London at breakneck speed, 1970s Cutler and Gross specs, freedom-fighters, Mies Van der Rohe and Britt Ekland in The Wicker Man. She hates: racism, homophobia, transphobia, not being able to speak Spanish. Pneumatic drills. And snobs. |
A cultured ear: why does listening to music matter?
"I travel far to participate in the BOI; it’s a unique festival of free speech and debate that consistently combines energy, fearlessness and provocation with thoughtful, informed consideration of contemporary politics and culture."
Wendy Kaminer, US-based writer on law, liberty, feminism, religion, and popular culture
