Clifford Longley

Clifford Longley is a well-known as an author, broadcaster and journalist who has specialised since 1972 in the coverage and analysis of British and international religious affairs, for 25 years on The Times. In 1996 he was consultant to the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales for the drafting of The Common Good and the Catholic Church’s Social Teaching; in 1998 for The Catholic Church and Human Rights; and in 2010 for Choosing the Common Good.

In 1986 Longley was named “Specialist Writer of the Year” in the British Press Awards. He was chief leader writer at The Times 1990-1992. He is now leader writer and columnist for the Tablet as its Editorial Consultant. He is a regular contributor to BBC Radio 4’s Thought for the Day and a panellist on The Moral Maze.

Publications include The Times Book of Clifford Longley (HarperCollins 1990); The Worlock Archive (Geoffrey Chapman 1999); and Chosen People (Hodder and Stoughton 2002). He is about to publish his first novel The Babylon Contingency on Kindle. He is a JP and an Honorary Fellow of St Mary’s College, Strawberry Hill.
