Sandy Black is Professor of Fashion & Textile Design & Technology at the Centre for Sustainable Fashion, London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London. Sandy has extensive experience in both industry (as a knitwear designer and manufacturer) and education (directing MA and BA fashion and textile programmes at LCF and University of Brighton).

Her research interests are cross-disciplinary and she writes and lectures on the intersections of fashion and textile design with emerging technology and science in the context of sustainability. Sandy is currently leading the AHRC-funded FIREup project on Fashion, Innovation, Research and Enterprise, bridging design-led research and the designer fashion industry. She supervises a diverse group of PhD students integrating design practice and theory with sustainability and technology.

She is the author of numerous papers, chapters and books on textiles and fashion including Eco Chic the Fashion Paradox, (Black Dog 2008)  - one of the first books published on fashion and sustainability - The Sustainable Fashion Handbook (Thames and Hudson 2012), and Knitting: Fashion, Industry, Craft (V&A Publishing 2012). She founded and co-edits the journal Fashion Practice: Design, Creative Process and the Fashion Industry (Bloomsbury)
