2011 Programme: Food Fight

In Britain today, food is more plentiful, more nutritious, more varied, and much more affordable than ever in our history. Yet still there is widespread concern about the risks and ethics of eating, with panics about everything from foie gras to turkey twizzlers. Do modern obsessions about obesity, industrial-farming, children on diets, GM crops, fat and salt levels mean we are so worried about what we eat that we forget food can be about enjoyment as well as sustenance?

"Anyone interested in taking the pulse of informed public debate wouldn't want to miss the Battle of Ideas. It's one of the most enjoyable forums to hear balanced but passionate arguments presented by some of the most articulate, knowledgeable and charismatic speakers in public life. A hard core workout if you're interested in society."
