![]() | Trevor Phillips was appointed chair of the UK Equality and Human Rights Commission in 2006. In this role he has continued the previous equality commissions on disability, gender and race and also has responsibility for the new areas of age, religion and belief, sexual orientation, transgender and the promotion of human rights and good relations. Prior to this, he was Head of Current Affairs at LWT, presenting the London Programme and the Material World. He has received numerous awards from the Royal Television Society and is currently a Vice President of the Society. He is author of The Best of Intentions: Race Equality and Delivering Today’s NHS and The Equalities Review, an independent review commissioned by the Prime Minister. In 2000 he was elected a member of the Greater London Authority and became chair of the London Assembly. He is an advisor to The Migration Policy Institute, a Washington based think-tank. Phillips studied chemistry at Imperial College London. In 2007 he was awarded the Chevalier de la Legion D’Honneur by the French Government. |
