Sarah Strang is a visual artist, graduating from Central St Martins in Fine Art in 2005. Over the last ten years Strang has explored the politics of a diverse range of institutions and the communities that they seek to serve. Strang’s practice continues to explore notions of social hierarchy, ties that both connect and disconnect communities via a series of artist in residence projects; at Union Chapel, a Grade II listed Congregational Church, Simmons & Simmons, an international law firm and the Royal College of General Practitioners, UK. Recently in May 2015 Sarah has founded Civic Room, a non-profit gallery in Glasgow and London that curates events, exhibitions and projects to share a critical engagement between artists, urban spaces and communities. From June 2015 until June 2017, Civic Room, led by Strang and an advisory of architects, artists, cultural historians and curators will participate in Glasgow international 2016 and Scotland’s inaugural Festival of Architecture 2016. Also in 2016, Strang will lead an artist in residence project in London, exploring private sector healthcare, unraveling further social inequalities that persist in our communities today.
