Dr Alex Standish

Alex Standish is a senior lecturer in geography education at UCL Institute of Education, and a former teacher. At the IOE he leads the secondary geography Post-Graduate Certificate in Education and teaches on the MA in Geography Education. He runs the London Geography Alliance (www.londongeography.org ) for teachers, a London Schools Excellence Fund project.

Standish contributed to the recent national curriculum/GCSE review for geography, and the London Curriculum. He advises several London schools with respect to curriculum and teacher education. Standish previously taught at Western Connecticut State University and completed his PhD at Rutgers University, New Jersey. He is author of, The False Promise of Global Learning – Why education needs boundaries. His research interests include: teacher education, curriculum, epistemology, pedagogy, geography education and global education.
