Tom Hutchinson divides his time between life as a professional clarinettist and project manager in the arts. Currently Tom is working with filmmaker Ruth Paxton and composer Dobrinka Tabakova on a new film and music collaboration for the New Music Biennial as part of the 2014 Commonwealth Games. He is coordinating the Bicentenary celebrations for the Royal Philharmonic Society for which he has just returned from filming the National Youth Orchestra in Derry and has just finished working with Goldsmiths and Manchester Metropolitan Universities on an annual music and literature project. He regularly writes and talks about the art-form’s role and is a passionate advocate for the significance of classical music in today’s society. He has interviewed many of the world’s leading musicians including Mitsuko Uchida, Evelyn Glennie, Maxim Vengerov, Vasily Petrenko, Daniel Harding and Sir Mark Elder. Tom Hutchinson trained as a clarinettist at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and then privately in Switzerland, Germany and Italy. His teachers include Dame Thea King, Joy Farrall, Tony Pay, Thomas Friedli and Alessandro Carbonare. He has gained numerous scholarships and prizes and currently plays with ensembles across the UK. He is greatly in demand as a teacher and has a busy practice in London. |
