![]() | Nikhil Amarnath is a student with many varied interests. Born and brought up in Bangalore, India, he loves football, especially freestyle football, and plays tennis often. Additionally, he loves to sprint, taking to the tracks as much as possible. While at home, he mostly writes in his spare time: from fantasy poetry to serious commentary on societal problems, he writes on many topics and in many forms; his last few topics include free verse about blasphemy laws, a poem on stuffed toys, and a fictional piece about the Book of Revelation. He has played the piano since 2002, a good 11 years of his 17 year life, and has been teaching himself the guitar for a short year or two. Nikhil is always on the lookout for new things to try out, including calligraphy and Latin. He is considering a course in economics for college, perhaps with literature or philosophy on the side, but his decisions are as fickle as any teenage kid his age. Nikhil secured the Best Individual prizes at both the Regional finals and National finals of Debating Matters India. |
What's the point of the social sciences?
"I have been doing the Battle of Ideas for a couple of years, but never before have I felt so heartened and so alive as the day ended. The spectacle of so many fascinating minds, none too proud to agree, none too modern to disagree, all at work on the most important questions of this rocky period: it's enough to make you believe there's hope for the species, yet."
