Anand Dossa

Anand Dossa is an economist at the National Farmers’ Union (NFU) based in England. The NFU is member organisation and has just under 56,000 Farmer & Grower members, representing 47,000 farm businesses across England and Wales. Anand’s role primarily involves preparing and delivering specialist and strategic advice on key farming sectors to support the development and promotion of evidence-based policies. Alongside this, he plays a key role in keeping the NFU abreast of relevant economic and business developments, and ensures that lobbying voice is recognised for its analytical integrity and relevance.

Prior to joining the NFU, Anand worked as an Analyst for the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) in England, where he specialised in researching, collating and analysing relevant agriculture, business and economic market intelligence related to livestock sectors.

Anand holds a B.A. with Honours in Economics and Business Studies from the University of Northampton. He’s has a keen interest in the global trends which drive agricultural commodity markets. The world’s population is growing at an increasingly rapid pace. With the majority of this growth in currently low income areas of the world, the combined effects of population and income growth mean that food demand will have to double by 2050. Non-food demands for land (fibre and fuel), alongside the threats of climate change, reduced water availability and soil degradation means that this increased production may have to come from an area of land not that much bigger than is currently used. How the world’s farmers react to this challenge will define the prospects for agriculture commodity markets in the coming years.
