Catherine Schenk

Catherine Schenk FRHS is Professor of International Economic History at the University of Glasgow and Associate Fellow at Chatham House.  She has been visiting researcher at the International Monetary Fund and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and specialises in international economic relations since 1945 with a particular focus on exchange rates, international currencies and international banking.

Catherine has written widely on the development of the global economy, regulation and international financial centres. A keen advocate of public understanding of economic issues, she has previously appeared at the ESRC Festival of Social Science and the Edinburgh International Festival as well as interviews for the BBC and NPR in the USA.  She has also shared her insights on recent historical events with policy organisations such as the Bank for International Settlements and the Bank of Japan. 

Her current project, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, examines the development of international financial regulation and supervision 1961-1982.
