Evelien H. Tonkens, sociologist, is full professor of Citizenship and Humanisation of Institutions and Organisations at the University of Humanistic Studies. Before, she was professor at the University of Amsterdam (2005-2014) and Member of Parliament for the Green Left (2002-2005). She published numerous articles and books on ideals of citizenship and social change, inclusing Summoning the Active Citizen: Responsibility, Participation and Choice (Amsterdam University Press, 2011) and Understanding Citizenship in Multi-ethnic Societies (Palgrave Macmillan, 2012).
She is a member of the Supervisory Boards of two health care organizations and a regular advisor to national and local governments and public sector – and civic organizations.
