Michael Mason

Michael Mason started playing the cornet at a young age through brass bands in the North East of England and by the age of 13 was playing principal cornet; through this won a place in the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain. At the age of 16, Michael then successfully auditioned for Chetham’s School of Music where he Studied with: Murray Grieg, Tracey Redfern and John Dickinson. Whilst at Chetham’s Michael took part in a recording of Berlioz Requiem alongside the Gabrielli Consort, recorded and performed in Wroclaw, Poland. He also took part in a BBC proms performance and recording of Mendellsohn’s Elijah as a chorus member.  After leaving Chetham’s, Michael moved on the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, where he is currently in his fourth year and studies under Paul Beniston, Chris Deacon, Will O’Sullivan, Anne McAneney Steve Keavy and Noel Langley. Michael was principal trumpet in the recent (sold out) performances of the Opera Pinocchio by Jonathan Dove and plays with the Guildhall Jazz Band.

Outside of studies, Michael works as a freelance player performs across many genres, working with orchestras, recording artists, bands and in musical theatre.
