Galeria Zé dos Bois

Galeria Zé dos Bois (ZDB) is an art centre created in 1994 as a non-profit association of civic initiative. It’s based in an 18h century palace (27000 ft²) at the heart of Bairro Alto, Lisbon.

As a creation, production and promotion structure for contemporary art ZDB instigates the research and investigation of artists involved with visual and performative arts, as well as film and music.

ZDB produces and presents exhibitions and hosts more then 150 arts events per year including residencies, educational programs, theatre, dance, lectures, and music concerts mainly on the leftfield.

ZDB has been working with João Maria Gusmão & Pedro Paiva,  Keiji Haino, Kenneth Anger, Patrícia Portela, Animal Collective,  Tânia Carvalho, Alexandre Estrela, Thurston Moore, Dirty Projectors,  Jean Baudrillard, Sofia Dias & Vítor Roriz, Bonnie “Prince” Billy, ,André Cepeda , Gabriel Abrantes, John Romão, Norberto Lobo, Rigo 23, Mala Voadora, Emory Douglas, Lightning Bolt, Orlan, João Tabarra, Rafael Toral, Grouper, Maria Gil, Stelarc, Michael Gira, Sei Miguel, Gonçalo Pena,  Lee Ranaldo, Ann Liv Young, John Maus, Primeiros Sintomas, Black Dice, Sonny Simmons, Societé Realiste, Arthur Doyle,  Marcelí Antunez, Sunn O))) and Faust, among many others.

Driven by the desire to intensify and interchange knowledge with artists in creative and production practices, ZDB promotes international and local residencies and establish long-term working relationships with the aim of producing unique projects.
