Saturday 17 October, 13.10 until 13.50, Free Stage, Barbican Hot Off the Press
Can one architectural style be deemed to be better than others? More appropriate? More humane? This used to be a live debate, but in our post-post-modern world, it is now seldom discussed.
Architect Farshid Moussavi has said that to associate style with a certain period or epoch treats architecture as “a very dumb exercise”. But this series of books shows that to understand style in historical contexts - and to be able to decide for yourself what you like or dislike - requires both commitment and vocal debate.
At this launch, we give you the chance to hear style champions argue their case and allow you to choose which style you might defend. It seems that the debate is not over, it has only just begun
