Lenore Skenazy is “America’s Worst Mom.” (Google it—she’s there for 77 pages!) The New York City newspaper columnist got that title after she let her 9-year-old ride the subway alone. In response to the massive media blowback, she founded the book, blog and movement, “Free-Range Kids,” which helped launch the anti-helicopter parenting crusade.
Lenore’s feisty belief that our kids are safer and smarter than our culture gives them credit for has landed her on pretty much every chat show except Oprah (and now it’s too late!). She has spoken at Microsoft, the Sydney Opera House, and—oddly enough—the Bulgarian Happiness Festival, as well as at schools and conferences worldwide. She also hosts the reality show, “World’s Worst Mom.”
A graduate of Yale, Lenore lives in New York City with her husband and teen sons, who are half-Free-Range and half-Facebook addicts. Then again, so is she. One thing she understands: None of us is a perfect parent—and that’s just fine.
After Gaza: the return of anti-semitism?
"Five debates a day sounds a bit daunting beforehand, but I really loved it. The speakers are so knowledgeable and passionate about their chosen topic, and the amount of time dedicated to questions from the audience was great as it really brought in alternative views."
