Louise Johns-Shepherd

Louise has a wealth of experience in education leadership and in primary schools. She has worked in national organisations developing education policy and has been the headteacher of two inner-city schools. Louise is the Chief Executive of the CLPE, an independent UK charity promoting high standards in the teaching of literacy. The work of the charity particularly emphasises the importance of books and literature in enabling children to become confident, happy and enthusiastic readers and writers, with all the benefits this brings.  The CLPE runs the ‘CLiPPA’ which is the only award in England for published children’s poetry.  The award highlights the importance of poetry in schools and the charity ensures as many schools as possible have the knowledge, opportunity and resources to teach poetry in primary schools.
