Mary Glasgow
director of children, family services and external affairs, Children 1st

Mary qualified as a Social Worker in 1991. She has been the director of Children and Family Services at Scotland’s National Children’s Charity, Children 1st since 2014.

For the past 25 years she has spent her career working across the statutory and third sector social work/social care arenas in a number of Local Authorities and organisations, as a practitioner, trainer, manager and leader. Mary has a particular interest in how family minded practice can work to protect children’s rights and wellbeing, as well as build strong families and communities. She works to develop teams and services which reflect this approach in practice.

Whilst working at Quarriers, Mary co wrote a practice guide on supporting families and has also written on working with children affected by parental substance misuse. Mary is the third sector rep on Social Work Scotland’s Executive Committee, and is a board member at Starcatchers - an early years arts organisation for babies and very young children.
