Dr Ying Ying Tian
masterplanner, urban designer and researcher; director, China Design Centre; honorary research fellow, University of Manchester
Dr. Ying Ying Tian is an academic practitioner, Director of China Design Centre and honorary research fellow of Centre for Urban Policy Studies, University of Manchester. Before she joined London based China Design Centre in 2015, she served as the director of JTP China, and associate of John Thompson & Partners (JTP).
She has over 20 years’ experience in masterplanning, urban design and architecture design in both China and the UK, as well as being actively involved in academia and conferences in both countries. During 2001-2005, she completed her PhD research focusing on China’s urban redevelopment system and how all the actors work together to transform the built environment.
She is one of the contributors to the book China’s Emerging Cities: The Making of New Urbanism. Over the last seven years, she became JTP’s key member to expand the practice’s portfolio to China and extensively led on masterplanning in China’s new towns, eco settlements, tourism towns and regeneration areas. The award-winning projects include Suzhou West District Eco town, Jinan Liubu Eco Culture Tourism Town and Dalian Diamond Bay Regeneration.
Currently at China Design Centre, she is actively working on research and knowledge exchange in the built environment between the UK and China.
