Jocelyn Wyburd
Chair, University Council of Modern Languages
Jocelyn is the Director of the University of Cambridge Language Centre where she promotes language learning to staff and students for a variety of professional, academic and personal purposes.
She has Chaired UCML since January 2012 and represents language departments and scholarly associations associated with language disciplines throughout Higher Education, a time when enrolments in language degrees are declining and languages departments under threat. She lobbies government about policies affecting languages within education systems and for national policies on languages and multilingualism relevant to the UK’s role and influence in the world - in trade, the economy, national security and social cohesion.
She has also chaired the national Advisory Board for the Routes into Languages programme of university-led outreach to schools.
