John McRae

John McRae joined London based architecture practice Orms in June 1997 and is co-owner of the practice.

John has experience across a variety of sectors that include workplace, education, residential and healthcare and his passion is creating an architecture that listens.

Working closely with the charity Teenage Cancer Trust he developed a design blueprint for their developments throughout the UK and has completed projects in Cardiff and Cambridge. The Skypad Cardiff, the practices first healthcare project, received a number of prestigious awards including Building Better Healthcare Judges Special Award, RIBA Award and BD Architect of the Year for Healthcare.

John has participated in a number of conferences / panel discussions including; Ecobuild, RIBA: good design it all adds up, Sound Development, Post Brexit: Creating the future and 100% Design’s Brexit: What will it mean for architecture? John regularly contributes comments and articles to industry journals, is a member of Design Exchange and Lighting magazine editorial boards and recently judged the Lux, FX and WAN awards.

Current projects include a mixed use scheme (with two underground music venues) at St Giles Circus, office refurbishments at One New Oxford Street and 33 Gutter Lane and a co working campus in west London.
