![]() | Jim Hudson had a first career with a London-based architectural practice, working for over a decade on major inner-city regeneration, as well as numerous smaller design projects. In 2007 he relocated to Berlin, where he has since written extensively on architecture and all things urban for publications including Blueprint magazine, also blogging at www.architectureinberlin.com. His writing and tours focus on West Berlin’s post-war architecture, most recently the ‘forgotten’ International Building Exhibition (IBA) of the 1980s. He believes the hundreds of building projects that formed the IBA programme are a much-neglected but potentially rich source of inspiration for many post-industrial cities; an antidote to the bland recipe of boutique shopping and gentrification that increasingly afflicts our inner-urban landscape. At the beginning of 2011, Jim opened a British café and bakery in Berlin’s fast-gentrifying Kreuzberg district, and is now also a participant in the gentrification process that he continues to comment on. |
Remaking citizens for the ‘Big Society’
"I thought the Battle of Ideas was wonderful. Especially the extent and quality of audience participation. I can't imagine how I missed this exciting forum for exchange of ideas in the past. I will certainly not miss another one and look forward already to 2012 Battle of Ideas."
Professor Marilyn Monk, emeritus professor of molecular embryology, University College London
