Dr Henrietta Bowden-Jones is the Founder and Director of the National Problem Gambling Clinic in the UK.

She is a medical doctor specialised in addiction psychiatry and an Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Division of Brain Science at Imperial College where she teaches medical students and neuroscience students about pathological gambling and impulsivity.

Before starting up the National Problem Gambling Clinic, for many years she ran a central London NHS inpatient drugs and alcohol detoxification unit as well as running the Homeless drugs and alcohol NHS services in Soho, London.

Her doctorate thesis at Imperial College was on Ventromedial Pre-frontal cortex impairment in alcohol dependent subjects as a prognostic indicator. Impulsivity, behavioural addictions, decision-making and prognostic indicators in addiction are areas of particular interest.

Henrietta has been a member of the UK Government’s Responsible Gambling Strategy Board since 2009 advising on prevention, research, treatment and education and a member of the Board’s Research Panel.

She has lectured extensively nationally and internationally for many years, regularly appears in national and international media, ranging from television to radio and newspapers, being interviewed on issues pertaining to pathological gambling, addiction, impulsivity and decision-making. 
Henrietta also runs the UK Problem Gambling Research Consortium, a group of 12 researchers from Imperial, Cambridge, Oxford and UCL collaborating on different research projects within the National Problem Gambling Clinic.

Her textbook A Clinician’s Guide to working with Problem Gamblers is being published in the UK in the Spring of 2013.

She is the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ spokesperson on Problem Gambling as well as having been an elected member of the Executive Committee Addictions Faculty at the Royal College of Psychiatrists for the last 9 years.
