Professor Andrew Stirling

Andy Stirling is a professor in SPRU and co-director of the STEPS Centre at Sussex University. He is an interdisciplinary researcher, with a background in natural and social science. Focusing on challenges around ‘opening up’ more democratic governance of science, technology and innovation, his research addresses issues like: uncertainty, precaution, scepticism, sustainability, resilience, diversity, transformation and participation. He has served on many EU and UK advisory bodies on issues of energy, environment, emerging technologies and science policy. Nuclear power and alternative energy strategies is the empirical field he has worked in most.
