Jan Němec

RaveBoy is a DJ, freeparty organizer, autonomous philosopher, and a cultural & political activist considering music being not just entertainment product, but an artform carrying time- & spaceless cultural meanings. He professes a worldview that contemporary post-industrial society is unable to provide long-term self-sustainability because it continually evolves instant un-culture and sham consumption demand while putting aside the treatment of relation between the individual and the transcendence.  And music and art are the channels, through which these values can be communicated to the wider public.

RaveBoy is a co-founder of the Roots’n'Future crew – multi-genred soundsystem, originally based at the reggae, jungle and freetekno scene, gradually evolving into a wide-ranged collective dedicated to the promotion of deeper cultural consciousness at the electronic dances & reggae music scene, to street-party & squatting activism. Roots’n'Future founded a respected United Forces of Dub record label.

Concurrently, he founded his own solo project Messiah Komplex which consists of both the series of club nights presenting European conceptual musical tradition fusing with radical underground electronica and the DJ performances supported either by recorded samples or guests improvising on musical and visualisation instruments.

While teaching at a grammar school, he composed series of lectures on history of Czech underground anti-establishment movements since the beginning of the 20th Century.
