Dr Sarah Chan

Sarah Chan is a Research Fellow in Bioethics and Law and Deputy Director of the Institute for Science, Ethics and Innovation, The University of Manchester.  She was educated at the University of Melbourne, studying biological science and law, and spent several years doing research in molecular biology before moving into the area of bioethics and science policy. 

Since 2005 she has pursued bioethics research at The University of Manchester, first at the Centre for Social Ethics and Policy, and since its inception in 2008, at the Institute for Science, Ethics and Innovation.  Her research focuses on the social and ethical implications of emerging bioscience technologies and the role of science and innovation in society.  She has written on a wide range of subjects in biomedical ethics including the ethics of genetic modification and gene therapy, human enhancement technologies, stem cell and embryo research, animal ethics, research ethics and the regulation of science.
