Hakeem Onibudo

Hakeem Onibudo is a choreographer/director and professional host who began teaching dance in 1995, forming the company Impact Dance. His work has enabled him to work with children, young people, amateurs, semi-professionals and professionals in projects varying from school workshops, TV performances and theatre productions. These include work with BBC TV, Nickelodeon, CH4 (Endemol), ITV, Cosmopolitan Show, Duke of Edinburgh Awards, Sadler’s Wells Royal Ballet School, Dance Umbrella, Dance UK, East London Dance and Peacock Theatre. He is the creator of the unique street-style dance class XPRESS YO’SELF, which has been running at Danceworks for 13 years. Hakeem choreographed the Pet Shop Boy’s “Fundamental” World tour for 2006/07. He also worked alongside the Asian Dub Foundation, director Dave Freeman and designer Es Devlin on the English National Opera’s Channel 4 commissioned Gaddafi The Living Myth which ran at The Coliseum, St Martin’s Lane in September 2006. Hakeem is currently developing Hip Hop duets including Circular Disorientation which premiered at Breakin’ Convention 2007 at Sadler’s Wells, and is also helping and supporting companies to produce high quality Hip-Hop Theatre work, with a new professional platform called TWO’S A COMPANY.
