Strand: Battle for Music
There can be hardly anyone alive who doesn’t love music of one kind or another, whether it’s the fugues of JS Bach, the latest bubblegum pop hits, Indonesian gamelan, classic rock or soul, experimental art music, or all of the above. Music both unites and divides us, and talking about music is almost as universal as making and listening to it. The Battle for Music reflects many debates going on in the arts generally, about accessibility, elitism and participation, as well as raising important questions about how we relate to culture both as individuals and audiences - or even communities.
