Sally Millard

Sally Millard is a long-standing member of the Battle of Ideas organising committee and co-founder of the IoI Parents forum. The Parents forum was set up in 2006 to provide a meeting place for those who want to make sense of why parenting is such a focus for policy makers. It is as necessary now as it was when we set it up ten years ago. With concerns ranging from what we feed our children, how many books we read to them to how we talk to them, it seems that bringing up kids is neither a straight forward task, nor a private matter. The Parents Forum has been a great place to discuss these developments on our facebook page and in regular meetings, so that we can work out how to challenge them.

Sally works as a financial controller and the mother of two lovely children.

Is there a ghost in the machine?

"To contribute to Battle of Ideas is to add a few words to a giant, communal speech-bubble out of the gap-toothed mouth of British opinion. It is a strong reminder that the joys of free, uncalculated speech and the right to attack orthodoxies can in no way be assumed in 2012 – that we use them or lose them."
