Luis T Pereira

Luís Tavares Pereira was born in Lisbon, 1966. He graduated with an M.Arch from Princeton University in 1996 with a thesis on urban infrastructures and architecture, through a scholarship Gulbenkian/Princeton University,after graduating from the architecture school of University of Porto (FAUP, 1991).

He is the founding partner of [A] ainda arquitectura, (Porto, 1998) an architecture studio with a relevant practice in collaboration with cultural institutions, including Serralves Contemporary Art Museum, at Porto and Georgian National Museum, at Tbilisi. He was Vice-President of the Portuguese Order of Architects – Northern Chapter (OA-SRN), 2008-2010, where he coordinated the development of the new “Norte 41º: Centre for Architecture, Creativity and Sustainability”, and member of the board of OA-SRN co-responsible for Culture Programming, 2005-2007, where he coordinated the “in transit” lecture series, the “reunião de obra (site meeting)” exhibition series, the “Road to Wonderland: young Portuguese architects” lecture/debate series, or the “Art Museums” international Symposium at Serralves, and other programs.

Luis is also a freelance curator including such projects as “Metaflux: two generations in portuguese recent architecture” for the Venice Biennale, 2004 (by appointment from the Portuguese Ministry of Culture); the Guest Countries’ Section and the Conference “The Heart of the City”for the 1st Lisbon International Architecture Triennale 2007 , “Chain Reaction:Transformations in Hotel Architecture” and “Toll Free: European Architects in Transit”, Ministry of Economy and Innovation / Portugal Tourism Board / Serralves Museum,  2007/2008; the multimedia project “Records of a Transformation” on the urban transformation of Porto 2001, and the Prototypo Architecture Seminar “Performing the city”, Porto, 2001, for Porto 2001, European Cultural Capital.

Luis was member of the Advisory Committee of the ADDICT (Northern Portugal Agency for the Development of the Creative Industries), and is a member of the European Cultural Parliament.

Luis is currently curating the 5th edition of “Habitar Portugal”,  a selection of exemplary architecture works built in Portugal 2012-14, under the theme “has architecture been bailed out?”, which will premiere in Porto in 2016.
