Dédalo is a magazine launched in 2006 by a group of students from the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto – FAUP.

As a platform for discussion and intervention, it intends to instigate and promote the architectural debate, considering the discipline in its direct correlation with the artistic and social milieu.
For its 10th edition – Who Lives Next Door? – Dédalo has broadened its field of action, introducing a practical approach that focuses on a specific area of the city of Porto: Campanhã. Through public debates and workshop activities, Dédalo has initiated a discussion about public space, experimenting with different tools and methods of approach that intend to promote urban improvement through a participatory approach.

Dédalo RE-ACT Urban Festival, Take 2 – Building to Transform, will take place in October 2013. Considering the ideas developed in the 1st Take, the concept of this next phase is to materialize and experiment. After a process of selection and discussion with local institutions and promoters, Dédalo will initiate a new cycle, through which local inhabitants will be able to appropriate and integrate the process, participating in the construction of public places and new collective dynamics.

Dédalo, the magazine, will be back in November 2013. Compiling the work developed throughout this year, it will be available in bilingual format, combining Dédalo RE-ACT process and results, alongside with the contributions of special guests and interested individuals that willingly answered the question “Who Lives Next Door?”.

Forced marriage to faith schools: the politics of multiculturalism

"Who would choose to go to a session on free will at 10:30 on a Sunday morning? A few hundred of the most engaged, passionate and discursive participants I have encountered. As a neuroscientist on the panel I felt my science was aired and challenged in exemplary fashion. As a passionate believer in engagement I couldn’t have been more delighted."
