Susan M Coles

Susan is a freelance Arts, Creativity and Educational Consultant who has also taken on the voluntary role of President of the National Society for Education in Art and Design. She has also been vice president of NSEAD and is also a member of the Council, Professional Development Board and FGP. NSEAD is the leading national authority concerned with art, craft and design across all phases of education in the United Kingdom.

Susan is an advocate for art craft and design education from early years to HE and beyond into life long learning. She is also secretariat to the All Party Parliamentary Group on Art Craft and Design Education, formed in March 2012.
She works across the UK, in particular the north east of England, working in museums and galleries, colleges, universities and schools.

Susan regularly speaks at conferences and seminars. She is very active in developing networks to support visual art educators, through face to face meetings and via social media platforms. Susan is currently the social media facilitator for the NSEAD/Campaign for Drawing TEA (Thinking Expression Action) national drawing CPD programme for art educators, which has its national Symposium at the National Gallery on November 9th. Susan believes strongly in the value and necessity of the Arts in the school curriculum and that the curriculum model should be a 21st century one.

Susan is seen as a champion for the subject and keeps busy defending the subject articulately in as many public ways as possible, and also promoting and celebrating the diverse and wonderful art work that goes on in our schools, colleges, universities and communities. Susan advises, lectures, creates, looks, listens, challenges, teaches, writes, learns and generally loves everything that she does. (She is also a practising artist in the time that remains after all of that!)
