Zulfikar Abbany

Zulfikar is a writer, editor, and multimedia journalist. He contributes to DW radio and television programmes, data visualisations, and new media formats. He is a regular commentator on technology and other digital developments. He focuses on the “nuts and bolts” of the internet, big data in medicine, bioelectronics, privacy and data protection, encryption and cryptography, the Internet of Things - and their effects on society. He also writes on space and the expansion of our terrestrial network into an interplanetary one.

Previously, Zulfikar has written for New Scientist, the Independent, the Observer, The (Melbourne) Age and Sydney Morning Herald newspapers. Between 2006 and 2011, he was with ABC Radio Australia and Australia Network television. He chaired panels at the 2015 World Health Summit in Berlin, and one on cybersecurity and surveillance at the 2016 Global Media Forum in Bonn.
