Peter Horrocks

Peter Horrocks has been Head of Television News at the BBC since 2005. Since he took up the post in autumn 2005, he has introduced major changes – in particular to boost BBC News 24 and put it at the heart of BBC News.

Peter joined the BBC in October 1981 as a news trainee, after gaining a degree in History at Christ’s College, Cambridge. He worked on BBC2’s Public Eye before launching Here and Now, the BBC’s popular current affairs magazine programme.  He was then editor of Newsnight and Panorama, as well as Head of TV Current Affairs, and edited the general election results programmes in 1992 and 1997.

Peter was appointed Head of Current Affairs in June 2000, and was then executive producer for Brits, True Spies, Smallpox 2002, The Day Britain Stopped, Dirty War and The Power of Nightmares.

Peter has been involved in a number of BBC projects – including leading the BBC’s ‘Connecting with Audiences’ initiative and the BBC’s review of its relationship with independent producers. Peter has won BAFTAs in 1997 and 2005 for his editorship of Newsnight and for The Power of Nightmares.
