Steven Poole

Steven Poole is the English author of the books Unspeak (2006), about contemporary political language (shortlisted for the 2006 Index on Censorship T.R. Fyvel Award), and Trigger Happy (2000), about the aesthetics of videogames, as well as a composer of music for documentaries and short films, including the award-winning EVOL.

He has also written very many articles, mainly on books, music and other cultural matters, for the Guardian, the New Statesman, the Times Literary Supplement and so on, of which a few hundred can be read on his website. He has appeared at the Sydney Writers’ Festival, the Bath and Edinburgh Literary Festivals, the Rotterdam Film Festival, and GameHotel, as well as on BBC television, BBC radio, NPR, ABC radio, and other media outlets.
